Giant Penny Episode #6 Independent Comic Books

Cover

Jay, James and Jason discuss their favorite indy comics.  No spoilers, but James likes Savage Dragon, Jason likes the ones by Chris Claremont, and Jay likes some really old ones from before everybody was born.  There is discussion of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and of The Rocketeer, and of other things that got made into movies in the year 1990. Also, we talk about John Byrne, our favorite subject.  JOHN BYRNE.

Giant Penny episode #4 – George R. R. Martin’s Wild Cards

cover

Jason and Jay discuss Wild Cards, George R.R. Martin’s prose “superhero” series, written by a slew of authors including Martin himself. Jason is a slavish fanboy; Jay is relatively new to it (via Jason’s years’ long constant neurolinguistic programming).  Between the two of them, they give lots of love to this remarkable sci-fi series, which infuses the tropes of the superhero genre with the same intensity and grit that Game of Thrones gave to the conceits of epic fantasy.

Giant Penny episode #2 – Chris Claremont

2

The Giant Penny Crew discusses Chris Claremont’s epic run as author of”The Uncanny X-Men,” which lasted (amazingly) from 1975 to 1991. How we first discovered the run, what we love about it, and who of us is so obsessed with Claremont that he wrote a whole book about him (spoilers: Doot)
